Building a Path in Sustainability: Yelco and the Best Use of Resources

With environmental challenges and corporate responsibility hot topics of today, Yelco is taking its initial steps toward more sustainable practices that will make its operations greener over time. Rooted in the framework provided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 8/9/12 and 17), Yelco is shifting gears to embrace responsible economic growth and support the foundation of a greener tomorrow. This paper covers a few of the first initiatives Yelco has undertaken that securely underlines our ongoing commitment to the UN SDGs and sustainable development as we continue our expansion.

Circular Economy in the Context of SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

One of the key concepts at Yelco is adopting a circular economy to reduce waste and increase resource use. We analyze every step of the value chain, from design to end-of-life management, to drive efficiencies and mitigate impacts wherever possible. We know we have a lot of work to do, but even minor improvements can have an effect. We prioritize material reuse, recycling practices, and work cycle optimization to feed SDG 12 and motivate our partners to regard similar practices beyond the value chain.

Goal 8 — Decent Work And Economic Growth

Economic growth and social responsibility need to go side by side at Yelco. This means that we have put effort into training analysts, gauging their happiness, and doing all we can to provide a positive work atmosphere. We know these findings represent some initial steps and that there is more work to do, but these incremental efforts can hopefully lay a foundation for a workplace that is more aligned with SDG 8. In the long term, we want to be a company known for sustainable development and for developing people.

SDG No. 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

Yelco is researching technological paths to a more sustainable and efficient operation. The first steps towards greater responsibility in production lie in introducing sensors and monitoring tools to provide information on how and where energy and resources can be used more optimally. We realize we are only at the beginning of this journey and recognize many opportunities to improve. We plan to start contributing modestly to SDG 9 by integrating these technologies and showing how innovation can catalyze, in particular, a more sustainable industrialization.

SDG 17: Worldwide Partnership for Sustainable Development

Yelco is fully aware that doing something valuable in the field of sustainability is very hard, and collaboration is critical. We are collaborating with partners and suppliers to benefit from their experience and look for opportunities to make our actions more effective. And, though we are still establishing and reinforcing these partnerships, we have long realized that a collaborative approach is worthwhile. Our new commitment is to create a framework of accountability that drives more sustainable behavior throughout the value chain. If we partner with others, we can reach our collective SDG 17 more quickly.

Humbleness and Drive Towards the Future

We have a long way to go in making Yelco more sustainable, and as the CMO and Sustainability Manager, I see it as a continuous learning exercise. We take our first steps humbly, knowing we have a long way to go. Instead of claiming to be the ultimate leader, we want to exchange experiences and learn from others who, just like us, want to preserve the world for future generations.

Yelco's road to sustainability is in the beginning; nevertheless, our responsibility to SDGs 8, 9, 12, and 17 is real. Every small action contributes to progress, and we hope that by continuing to explore and learn, we can make a positive and meaningful difference. With humility and determination, Yelco is committed to walking the path of sustainability, collaborating, and innovating to pursue a more responsible future for all.
